Published annually, this handbook contains typical cost data for structures used in detached houses, row houses, apartment buildings, and industrial buildings. Costs are broken down into labour and material quantities and costs.
Building components are divided into structural and surface elements. The classification follows the Talo 2000 building project nomenclature system. The building components included are primarily based on RT guideline cards. The handbook contains more than 200 structural system alternatives and nearly 150 surface structure alternatives.
The handbook also includes cost information on:
The cost calculations for two model buildings have been prepared using the building components included in the handbook. A sample calculation form is provided and can be used to prepare your own cost estimates. An Excel version of the calculation form can also be downloaded via the QR code included in the publication.
Building Component Costs 2026 is based on Ratu work method and productivity data, as well as cost information for materials, machinery, equipment, and labour. Prices correspond to the January 2026 price level.
Current labour and material productivity rates have been compiled from Ratu data. Material prices have been updated using recommended price lists from manufacturers, importers, and both hardware and timber merchants. Labour rates are based on the latest average hourly earnings published in the wage statistics of the Construction Industry Federation RT.
The handbook is complemented by Renovation Construction Costs 2026, which contains essential cost information for renovation projects. Comprehensive cost planning for renovation projects requires both publications. Together, these handbooks enable comparisons between the costs of repairing existing structures and replacing them entirely. They can also be used to compare construction and life-cycle costs of alternative structural solutions in new-build projects.
The handbook is a valuable source of information for designers and construction professionals involved in estimating construction and life-cycle costs, comparing alternative solutions and bids, and monitoring actual project costs. It also serves as a useful general reference for students in construction-related educational programmes.
The publication is available both as a printed book and as an annually updated digital book. The digital version is always accessible on mobile devices, allowing convenient access wherever you are.
