This handbook provides essential cost information for renovation construction and complements the annually published Building Component Costs handbook.
In addition to core cost data, the handbook includes:
Structured according to the Talo 2000 classification system, the cost assemblies cover the repair, replacement, or demolition of building components, as well as preparation of the substrate to a condition equivalent to that required for new construction.
Once a structure or its components have been demolished or refurbished, the costs of replacing the structure can be estimated using the Building Component Costs 2026 excerpts included in the handbook or calculated in greater detail by using the full content of the Building Component Costs 2026 publication.
Comprehensive cost planning for renovation projects requires both handbooks. Together, this publication and Building Component Costs 2026 enable comparisons between the costs of repairing existing structures and replacing them entirely. They can also be used to compare the construction and life-cycle costs of alternative structural solutions in new-build projects.
Renovation Construction Costs 2026 is based on Ratu work method and productivity data, as well as cost information for materials, machinery, equipment, and labour. Prices correspond to the January 2026 price level.
Current labour and material productivity rates have been compiled from Ratu data. Material prices have been updated using recommended price lists from manufacturers, importers, and both hardware and timber merchants. Labour rates are based on the latest average hourly earnings published in the wage statistics of the Construction Industry Federation RT.
The handbook includes six sample calculations and a construction cost calculation form for preparing your own estimates. An Excel version of the calculation form can be downloaded using the QR code provided in the publication.
The handbook is a valuable resource for students, designers, and construction professionals involved in preparing and comparing renovation project bids, as well as in the scheduling, cost control, and supervision of construction work. It can also be used to analyse labour and material inputs and to evaluate the overall pricing level of bids.
The publication is available both as a printed book and as an annually updated digital book. The digital version is always conveniently accessible on mobile devices.
